Making Mock Scrapes Necessitates First Aid Knowledge

from:

Every year hunters go to the woods to begin making mock scrapes so they can bag a large deer. Many of them do not think of the possible dangers involved in making mock scrapes. Sharp objects, such as knives or broken branches, can mean punctures or cuts. Carrying a basic first aid kit as well as letting someone know where you will be when making mock scrapes could make all the difference in the world if an accident should happen.

Unforeseen Dangers Of Making Mock Scrapes

Accidents happen, even when care is taken. Making mock scrapes can lead to a wide range of accidents from getting a cut to having a sharp branch or other unseen object puncture your skin. The best way to be prepared for this type of unexpected accident is to plan ahead, know first aid and carry a stocked first aid kit with you anytime you go into the wilderness. A mild cut will penetrate the surface of the skin making the capillaries bleed which can be treated with the supplies in a first aid kit onsite. Sometimes, cuts go deeper, causing arteries or veins to be severed. Immediate action is the key to surviving these types of wounds.

What To Do When An Accident Happens While Making Mock Scrapes

The first thing to do when an accident happens is to remain calm. Get the first aid kit out, look at the wound, cover it with a clean cloth and apply a firm pressure to the area that is bleeding. If it is a minor wound, stop the bleeding, clean the wound, apply an antibacterial ointment, then dress the wound. When you get home, remove the dressing, give the wound a better cleaning to make sure all dirt and other foreign objects are removed and then redress it. If an artery or vein has been severed, cover the area with a clean cloth, apply a firm pressure to try to stop the bleeding and get help immediately. Any time an artery or vein is severed there is no time to waste in getting professional medical help. The way to tell the difference in between a cut artery and a cut vein is the artery will have bright red blood that will flow quickly and in spurts. If a vein has been cut the blood will be dark red and the blood will flow more evenly.

Making a plan ahead of time when making mock scrapes, making sure the supplies you take with you are all there as well as letting someone know where to find you and when you will be back really can make the difference between life and death, especially in the wilderness.
