Timing For Making Mock Scrapes Makes First Aid Knowledge Imperative

from:

Mock scrapes are usually made at the break of dawn or just as the sun sets in the evening. The low light period and the fact that you could be the only person in the woods makes the need to know first aid essential. It is advisable to carry a small first aid emergency kit with you. Mock scrapes and rubs require the use of a knife or other sharp object, making the potential for a cut or puncture wound possible. Even if you have done this a hundred times before, accidents are bound to happen.

How to make mock scrapes

When making mock scrapes you need to damage branches. A mock rub on a tree will need to be made by removing the bark. The mock scrapes are made by grabbing a branch and bending it or by cutting a branch. As long as the end result is a branch that looks gnarled, the mock scrapes will be a success. A mock rub will need to be made close to the mock scrapes. This is done by removing a section of bark from a tree so it appears a buck has been rubbing against it. An object such as a shovel or large branch will be needed to create a disturbed appearance on the ground. Once this is done, it is time to apply urine to the area to create the scent.

Why First Aid Is So Important When Making Mock Scrapes

When making mock scrapes or disturbing the dirt on the ground it is possible to be poked in the eye or elsewhere on the body. A sharp branch or an unseen object such as metal or glass could cause a severe cut or puncture wound. While the likelihood of this happening might be rare, knowing how to administer first aid and having the necessary supplies on hand could mean the difference between life and death.

First Aid For Hunters Making Mock Scrapes

When going into the woods to make mock scrapes it is essential that you let someone know where you are going. A vehicle that sits for any length of time, unmoved, will alert others that something is wrong. Either purchase or make a hunter’s first aid kit. The items that make up a hunters’ first aid kit are a whistle, a space blanket, two small flashlights, a small mirror, a clean towel, antibiotic ointment, antiseptic towelettes, wound closure strips, small scissors’, medical tape, latex gloves and sterile gauze pads. The next step is to know how to use the items in the first aid kit. When making mock scrapes a serious cut such as one that would severe an artery or vein is possible. Before venturing out to make mock scrapes, a deer rub or going on any wildness excursion, learn basic wilderness first aid skills and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Doing this could save someone’s life.
